Loyola / Notre Dame Library appoints Katy O’Neill as director – newsroom

the Loyola / Notre Dame Library, which provides information services and resources to Loyola University in Maryland and Notre Dame University in Maryland, has appointed Mary Catherine “Katy” O’Neill as director of the library. O’Neill, who was unanimously appointed by the library’s board of trustees, will take office on October 1.

“With a strong mission focus, a passion for working directly with a range of library users, significant consortium experience, strong connectivity with our universities, and a keen eye on the ever-changing library landscape, Katy is a proven leader who will continue to advance the Loyola / Notre Dame Library for the betterment of our excellent library staff and the two exceptional universities it serves, ”said Stuart A. Smith III, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the library.

O’Neill has held various library positions since 2012, most notably as Associate Director of Research and Technology Services since 2016. She brought previous library experience to the University of Maryland – Global Campus, the United States Naval Academy and National Archives.

“Loyola’s commitment to academic excellence, cura personalis and service learning have always energized me in my work at Loyola / Notre Dame Library, so I am delighted with the opportunity to continue to support student success in this new role as the next principal, ”O’Neill said.

O’Neill holds a Masters of Library Science from the University of Maryland and a Certificate in Digital Librarianship Leadership from Harvard University. She has been active in the library community with a variety of publications and presentations while becoming an emerging leader in the Maryland University System Library Consortium and affiliated institutions and the Maryland Library Association, among others.

“Katy brings extensive library leadership experience and will serve our students and faculty as the new director of the Loyola / Notre Dame Library,” said Cheryl Moore-Thomas, Ph.D., NCC, Acting Provost and vice-president for business studies at Loyola. “We are delighted that she is stepping into this new role and leading the library into the future. “

Earlier in his career, O’Neill held positions at companies such as Booz Allen Hamilton, Fannie Mae and PepsiCo. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Development and Human Resources from Cornell University and an MBA with a concentration in Finance from American University.
