HISPANIC HEALTH COALITION OF GEORGIA LAUNCHES HIA TOPICS TO PROMOTE HEALTH EQUITY
HIA TOPICS provides a library of medically authenticated answers
ALPHARETTA, Ga., June. 5, 2022 /PRNewswire/– The Hispanic Health Coalition of Georgia today announced the launch of a partnership with HIA Technologies, Inc™. This important development is part of a larger strategic plan to expand efforts to achieve and improve the effectiveness of services to the Hispanic/Latino community. It will also serve other minority, underserved and socio-economically disadvantaged populations. The interactive educational platform, EIS TOPICS™ will be leveraged to reduce misinformation, increase engagement and improve health literacy. Drawing on more than 20 years of academic research on human-computer interaction, digital humans, and advanced AI technologies, HIA TOPICS empowers healthcare providers to create their own virtual learning environments, breaks down barriers to medically validated information and connects patients to their doctor’s real-time answers via conversational AI.
Shirley E. “Bella”, Borghi, Executive Director of HHCGA, had this to say about the partnership with HIA:
“HHCGA has long viewed education as a critical strategic element in the quest to promote awareness and facilitate access to available health services and benefits. By partnering with HIA, HHCGA can now provide a library of health topics, from well-known and respected subject matter experts to the Hispanic/Latino community HIA TOPICS represents an amazing opportunity for underserved communities to have health questions answered, and to do so in an environment interactive virtual learning.
With HIA TOPICS, clinicians deploy physician-authored training from a library of health topics. The digital agents then host interactive presentations where patients can ask questions and hear their doctor’s answers, thanks to doctor-controlled AI.
CEO Vacit Arat states, “Our method of matching physician-drafted responses to patient questions in real time simulates live interactions with pinpoint accuracy.” He adds, “Patients get trusted information from the source, stop error-prone Internet searches, and reconnect with their providers from the safety of their homes. HHCGA is a perfect example of how organizations committed to health equity can benefit from cutting-edge technology that is inclusive and accessible.”
For HHCGA, the goal of the program is to explore the usefulness and impact of HIA SUBJECTS on patients, and to measure potential improvements in efficiency and compliance or adoption of medical protocols. Some specific use outcomes that are collected include: quantitative and qualitative data to address the impact of social determinants on underserved populations, with a focus on the Hispanic/Latino population and ultimately justify their extension model for Community Health Care Outcomes (Echo), which support peer-to-peer collaboration, network building and resilience building across the public health workforce.
HHCGA’s implementation of HIA TOPICS initially focused on raising awareness of screening exams related to colonoscopy and mammography. Colon cancer and breast cancer kill a disproportionate number of Hispanic/Latino and Black Americans each year. As quoted by the American Cancer Society, 176,000 new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in our Hispanic/Latino population, resulting in 46,500 deaths each year, and 224,080 new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in the black community, resulting in 73,680 deaths each year. With early screening and detection, the survival rate of these cancers is greatly increased for better health outcomes. Providing reliable education designed to specifically reach these audiences, HHCGA plans to publish the results of this program in a white paper this summer.
