Daktronics Deploys New LED Video Display at Foster Stadium at Virginia Military Institute

Daktronics has once again partnered with the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) to design, manufacture and install a new LED video display at Foster Stadium in Lexington. The screen was installed and operational before their game on October 30.

“The new LED display was an instant hit with our fans and energized our game day experience at Foster Stadium,” said Haley Shotwell, AD Associate VMI for External Relations. “It has transformed our ability to deliver high quality video content and graphics in a versatile and efficient manner. “

The new end zone display features 10mm pixel spacing to deliver crisp, clear images to fans throughout the stadium. It is 24 feet tall by 48 feet wide and is controlled by the Daktronics Show Control system, a state-of-the-art system that provides a combination of display control software, world-class video processing, data integration and of reading material that forms a user-friendly production Solution.

The display is capable of variable content zoning which allows it to display one large image or multiple areas. These areas can display any combination of live video, instant replays, late-breaking stats, graphics and animations, and referral messages.

“A Saturday at Foster Stadium watching the Keydets compete on the grill is a day filled with all the traditions you would expect on match day at the country’s oldest public military school,” said Fran Kulas, sales representative of Daktronics. “We are once again honored to partner with the Virginia Military Institute on another special project where our advanced technology will enhance the game experience for athletes and spectators at this historic site. “

The addition of the displayed video peaked in 2021 with the Keydets winning the Southern Conference football title in the spring and Foster Stadium / Alumni Memorial Field celebrating its 100e anniversary as the home of VMI football.

In addition to the installation of the equipment, VMI will also receive a content package which will be produced and delivered by Daktronics Creative Services.
